Lavrov and Steinmeier discuss outcome of Contact Group talks in Minsk
In a phone conversation the foreign ministers stressed the importance of ending combat actions in Donbas immediately
MOSCOW, June 17. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier discussed cooperation in the Normandy format in an effort to resolve the Ukrainian crisis in a phone conversation on Wednesday.
The discussion focused on the development of the situation in Ukraine, and particularly the outcome of Tuesday's Minsk meetings of the Contact Group and its working subgroups, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said.
The foreign ministers stressed the importance of ending combat actions in Donbas immediately.
Lavrov and Steinmeier called for reaching more agreement on the issues of "ensuring the ceasefire regime, solving humanitarian issues, launching the political process by developing a direct and stable dialogue of Kiev with Donetsk and Luhansk," the ministry said.
The top diplomats also stressed the importance of immediately ending combat actions in eastern Ukraine, first of all, the shellings of settlements and civilian infrastructure facilities.
