KIEV, June 17. /TASS/. Facebook’s representatives have assured Ukraine’s information policy minister, Yury Stets, that the monitoring of the country’s content in the popular social network will be carried out more thoroughly, the Ukrainian government’s press service said on Wednesday.

At the meeting with Thomas Kristensen, Facebook's Director Public Policy, Nordics, Central & Eastern Europe and Russia, and Gabriella Cseh, Head of Policy for Central and Eastern Europe, Stets "raised the issue of the blocking of accounts of Ukrainian politicians and public figures," it said.

A group of Ukrainian users of the network have earlier told the Facebook administrators that the pages of some of them were allegedly blocked "on political grounds," claiming that "this is done without a due investigation and without any good reasons."

"The Facebook representatives have confirmed that they are launching a dialogue with the Ukrainian side on more thorough and balanced approaches towards monitoring the Ukrainian segment of the social network," the ministry said in comments to the meeting.

The representatives assured that the monitoring and analysis of the Ukrainian segment is conducted by the company’s office in Dublin, Ireland, "based on the non-political principles and in compliance with the standards of the social network," it said.

The sides also discussed plans for opening a Facebook office in the country’s capital Kiev.

The Ukrainian minister stressed that this move was very important. "I am sure that besides me, all the users of the Facebook social network in Ukraine want this," Stets said.

Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg has earlier said there was no "administration" of the network moderating the Ukrainian segment but some anti-Russian posts of Ukrainians were indeed deleted due to hate speech.

Speaking on the request of Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko on opening a Ukrainian Facebook office, Zuckerberg said: "Over time it is something we might consider.".
