Slovak PM calls for lifting Russia sanctions

Robert Fico said the were aimed at pushing Russia towards the resolution of the conflict with Ukraine, and the Minsk agreement was a major political achievement

BRATISLAVA, May 27. /TASS/. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Wednesday called for lifting sanctions against Russia in case of the fulfillment of the Minsk agreements on the Ukrainian conflict resolution.

"Sanctions solve nothing," Fico said. "They are no politics but its instrument that hasn't provided the achievement of goals."

"The sanctions were not aimed at causing economic damage to Russia or degrading its living standards," he said. "They were aimed at pushing Russia towards the resolution of the conflict with Ukraine."

He said the signing of the Minsk agreement was a major political achievement.
