Iraqi PM says expansion of Russian oil companies in Iraq possible

MOSCOW, May 22. / TASS /. Iraq now has all the conditions for Russian oil companies to expand their activities in the country as well as for energy companies to resume their activities there, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said in an interview with TV channel Russia-24.

According to him, during his talks with the Russian authorities a particular attention was paid to the ways to increase investments, expansion of Russian companies’ activities in Iraq and the growth of turnover.

Currently, Russian companies in Iraq are operating in such sectors as armaments, equipment maintenance and oil production. Russian companies account for a significant amount of oil extracted in the large fields of the country such as Qurna-2, the Prime Minister said.

The head of the Iraqi government also said that some the Russian companies operating in power sector, were forced to suspend operations after the Islamic State troops invaded Iraq.

He added that now the security situation in Iraq has improved.
