UN Security Council reform should not cause controversy among nations — Foreign Ministry

According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, it would be dangerous to introduce elements that would not win support in every corner of the world when such universal thing is in question

MOSCOW, May 22 /TASS/. Russia remains committed to the UN Security Council reform but stresses the need to enlist broad support for the reform so as it does not become a source of controversy in future, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in his speech at the BRICS Academic Forum on Friday.

"Yes, the reform is going slowly but it should enlist broader support and is not supposed to cause differences at the United Nations in future," Ryabkov stressed.

According to the diplomat, it would be dangerous to introduce elements that would not win support in every corner of the world when such universal thing is in question.

"But we remain firmly committed to the UN Security Council reform," the Russian deputy foreign minister concluded.
