TV reporter blown up on tripwire in east Ukraine undergoes operation
MOSCOW, April 15. /TASS/. Zvezda TV channel journalist Andrey Lunyov has underwent a head surgery, the channel said on Wednesday.
Lunyov was blown up on a tripwire in Donbas’ Shirokino on Tuesday. "Andrey now is on mechanical ventilation. His condition is stable," the TV channel said. His mother will be allowed to visit him in the evening, Zvezda added.
Lunyov suffered a penetrating injury to the head and neck, multiple shrapnel injuries to the chest and legs. After the journalist received first aid, his condition slightly improved, and brain swelling was relieved.
Doctors from Moscow have arrived at a hospital in Rostov-on-Don, where Lunyov is treated, to hold consultations on the second operation.
The incident occurred during the trip of OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) and JCCC (Joint Center for Control and Coordination) representatives to Shirokino. "A Zvezvda journalist was inspecting the ruins, when he stumbled upon a tripwire that exploded. The TV channel journalist sustained serious injuries to the head and legs. At the moment of explosion, the journalist was not wearing a bulletproof vest," the TV channel said.
Lunyov is a resident of Donetsk who has been working for Zvezda TV channel since the start of a conflict in the south-east of Ukraine.
