Russia says international organizations more objective about Ukrainian refugees problem
As far as international humanitarian cooperation is concerned, the dominant channel of humanitarian aid is still Russia, the Russian foreign ministry's human rights commissioner says
MOSCOW, April 13. /TASS/. A senior Russian foreign ministry official said on Monday the situation with international organizations’ recognizing the problem of Ukrainian refugees had improved.
"The Russian Foreign Ministry is continuing to work on the issue [of Ukrainian refuges] in international organizations," Konstantin Dolgov, the Russian foreign ministry's human rights commissioner, said at a meeting in the Federation Council, noting the United Nations’ and other international organizations’ initial reluctance to acknowledge the mere existence of such a phenomenon as Ukrainian refuges and internally displaced people.
"The situation has become more objective," Dolgov said, adding that: "However, as far as international humanitarian cooperation is concerned, the dominant channel of humanitarian aid is still Russia."
Authorities in Russia’s southern Rostov region said during Monday’s meeting that at least 300,000 Ukrainian refugees who fled from their war-torn country into the bordering region still remained there.
"Some 2.5 million [Ukrainian citizens] arrived in the Rostov region since the conflict began [last April]," regional head Sergey Bondaryov said, adding that about 500 people had obtained Russian citizenship and about 10,000 got a job in Rostov.
He also noted that nearly 6,500 children and young people from Ukraine currently attended the region’s schools and universities.
