Protesters have been chanting slogans which condemn the politics of the corrupt government and call for the resignation of MP Arseny Yatsenyuk. Most protests are linked to a recent resolution to sharply raise tariffs for power supply and public utilities services for the population, which was adopted by the Ukrainian government.
A few armored vehicles for transportation of prisoners remain outside the Rada building.
Right Sector is an informal right-wing extremist formation. In March 2014 it was reorganized into a political party on the basis of the Ukrainian National Assembly (UNA-UNSO) party. Last November the Russian Supreme court recognized Right Sector as an extremist organization and banned its activities in Russia. The power base of the UNA-UNSO is in western Ukraine, the traditional home of anti-Russian nationalizm.
