Thirty militants killed in Khyber Agency airstrikes by Pakistani jets

A military operation codenamed Khyber-2 to squeeze armed extremists from the Tirah Valley area has been under way since the end of 2014

ISLAMABAD, March 25. /TASS/. Pakistani fighter jets pounded on Wednesday terrorist positions in the Khyber tribal region in the northwest of the country, killing at least 30 gunmen from the Lashkar-e-Islam militia group, the republican army press service reported.

It said they had attacked camouflaged hide-outs of terrorists in the Tirah Valley, where a military operation codenamed Khyber-2 to squeeze armed extremists from the area has been under way since the end of 2014.

Two ammunition depots were reportedly destroyed in the attack.

Local media report that Lashkar-e-Islam spokesman Salauddin Ayubi was also killed in air strikes. A day before, a personal driver of Lashkar-e-Islam leader Mangal Bagkh was killed together with other seven gunmen in an attack of an American drone in the area of Nazean, an Afghan area bordering with Pakistan.
