Two Japanese citizens, two Mexican nationals likely among passengers of crashed Airbus

TOKYO, March 25. /TASS/. Two Japanese nationals were likely among the passengers of the crashed Germanwings airliner, Japan’s Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida told journalists on Wednesday.

"We received a list of passengers on board the crashed airplane. There are two people among them who are most likely citizens of Japan," the foreign minister said. Tokyo is working to receive all necessary information in this connection, he added.

Among the passengers were also two Mexican citizens, the Mexican Foreign Ministry said citing its embassy in Barcelona.

"Consuls are currently clarifying the information about two Mexican nationals aboard the crashed airplane," the ministry said. Official reports will be received soon which will allow to confirm or deny the information, it added.

Earlier, Mexican President Enrico Pena Nieto expressed condolences to friends and families of the air crash victims.

A Germanwings Airbus-320 en route from Barcelona to Duuseldorf crashed on March 24 in mountainous terrain in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, southern France. The plane carried 150 people, including 144 passengers and six crew, mainly the nationals of Germany, Spain and Turkey. It was earlier confirmed that two Argentine nationals and two Colombian citizens were among the passengers.
