Former deputy chief of China’s largest oil company charged with bribery, abuse of power
Investigators say Wang Yongchun used his position over the last 15 years for personal gain and illegally received large sums of money
BEIJING, March 23. /TASS/. Chinese prosecutors have charged former deputy general manager at China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Wang Yongchun with bribery and abuse of power, China’s Supreme People’s Procuratorate said on Monday.
Investigators say Wang Yongchun used his position over the last 15 years for personal gain and illegally received large sums of money. He served as senior executive in Jilin Oilfield Company, PetroChina, Daqing Oilfield Company and CNPC. "Wang Yongchun’s property and his expenses exceeded his legal income, and he could not explain why this difference occurred," the Procuratorate said in a statement.
Wang’s case was referred to Xiangyang’s court on Monday. In June last year, he was expelled from China’s Communist Party. In August 2013, a party investigation has been launched into Wang’s activities.
CNPC is the largest oil and gas company in China and fourth-largest energy companies in the world. Russia’s gas giant Gazprom and oil company Rosneft are among CNPC’s largest partners.
