Opposition bloc demands dissolving Ukrainian parliament as incapable
This Verkhovna Rada, which was elected in wartime, which has created a majority for war purposes, and which has been passing laws in support of that war must go, says Ukraine's Opposition Bloc
KIEV, March 23. /TASS/. The Opposition Bloc in the Ukrainian parliament is demanding the Verkhovna Rada should be disbanded, if it fails to approve the bloc’s proposed peace plan for settling the situation in Donbas.
"This Verkhovna Rada, which was elected in wartime, which has created a majority for war purposes, and which has been passing laws in support of that war must go. Time is ripe for disbanding this incapable parliament," the Opposition Bloc said in a statement. The opposition demands that the Verkhovna Rada should support its package of peace bills for a settlement of the conflict in the east of Ukraine. "If the parliamentary majority refuses to vote for our peace package, it will ultimately demonstrate its utter reluctance to serve the interests of the Ukrainian people."
The opposition recalls that at the end of January it submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a comprehensive peace package of ten bills, expected to translate into reality all Minsk Accords and pave the way for restoring Donbass.
Among other things the opposition’s peace plans urges the Ukrainian authorities to give up attempts at handling the conflict in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions from the position of strength, to carry out impartial investigation of all terrorist attacks in Donbass and to adopt measures for resumption of humanitarian and social aid to the territories not controlled by Kiev, restore transport links, resume the operation of all Ukrainian mass media and institute a fund for financing the restoration of the region’s infrastructures.
