OSCE, ICRC staff come under fire during inspection of Donetsk airport — DPR

According to the DPR Defense Ministry spokesman, local Emergencies Ministry’s staff and ICRC, OSCE and JCC representatives came under fire from grenade launchers when they were inspecting the airport

MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) came under fire from the Ukrainian military after they arrived for an inspection of the Donetsk airport, a spokesman for the local militia forces said on Friday.

Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Defense Ministry’s spokesman Eduard Basurin said that at 12:00 on Friday "local Emergencies Ministry’s staff as well as ICRC, OSCE and Joint Control and Coordination [JCC] representatives came under fire from grenade launchers during an inspection of a new terminal of the airport."

No casualties were reported.

Basurin said that the fire from grenade launchers emerged from the territory under control of the Ukrainian military and the fact was registered by all sides present during the incident.

"Representatives of the international organizations participating in the inspection of the airport’s terminal were forced to find shelter in the nearby building," he added but did not say whether anyone was hurt in the incident.

Basurin said the fire was opened on two more occasions with an hour and a half as international monitors attempted twice to resume their inspection of the airport.
