Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said the issue was being discussed at the level of experts

UNITED NATIONS, February 6. /TASS/. UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq said on Thursday the decision on the dispatch of a UN peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine if any would be made by the UN Security Council, adding the issue is not officially discussed at the moment.

In reply to a TASS query, Farkhan Haq did not rule out that the deployment of UN peacekeepers in Ukraine could be discussed unofficially, but this was not the kind of information that could be disclosed.

On Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said the issue was being discussed at the level of experts.

Russian Foreign Ministry hopes that the forthcoming meeting of Russian, German and French leaders will bring clarity to the problem of deployment of a UN peacekeeping contingent in south-eastern Ukraine, Alexander Lukashevich said.

"Such plans have been discussed at the level of experts in principle and they remain under discussion," he said. "We’ll watch the progress of negotiations. It always makes sense to wait /for the results of talks/ before drawing up any plans."

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande are heading for Moscow to discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday a new peace initiative to end renewed fighting in eastern Ukraine.
