FBI sets up special squads to fight international corruption

WASHINGTON, January 15. /TASS/. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is creating special squads at its largest regional centers to fight international corruption, chief of the FBI’s public corruption and civil rights section Jeffrey Sallet has said. The squads will operate in Washington, New York and Los Angeles.

The FBI was tasked to pave way for a broader application of the 1977 Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, particularly to try specific criminal cases at US courts.

In particular, the law bans bribery of foreign officials for business. The legal act can be applied to any foreign corporation listed at US stock exchange.
