OSCE Chief Monitor in Ukraine calls for maximum restraint in the east of the country
According to him, over the past 24 hours the situation in eastern Ukraine has significantly deteriorated
VIENNA, January 13 /TASS/. Ambassador Ertugrul Apakan, the Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, has called on all parties in the Ukraine conflict to exercise maximum restraint in eastern Ukraine.
“Over the past 24 hours the situation has significantly deteriorated, especially near the Donetsk airport; more civilian casualties have been reported elsewhere,” Apakan said in a statement which the OSCE published on Tuesday.
Apakan further called for a full and immediate ceasefire and de-escalation. He encouraged all sides to cooperate with the OSCE and to enhance the implementation of the Minsk documents.
OSCE monitors to Ukraine have been registering the growing number of violations of the ceasefire regime since last weekend. According to the OSCE daily reports, every 24 hours count dozens of violations, especially near the Donetsk airport.
The Joint Control and Coordination Center set up by Ukraine, Russia and the OSCE reported more than a hundred violations of the ceasefire regime on Monday, January 12.
