Astana talks postponed due to Kiev’s ‘unconstructive’ stance — DPR official
“In fact, Kiev is not moving towards constitutional reforms and has not granted Donbas a special status," the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic negotiator Denis Pushilin said
DONETSK, January 13. /TASS/. The summit of leaders of Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany proposed to be held in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana on January 15 has been postponed as Kiev continues ignoring both Minsk and Geneva agreements, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) negotiator said on Tuesday.
“In fact, Kiev is not moving towards constitutional reforms and has not granted Donbas a special status, and Kiev is avoiding a direct dialogue with the representatives of Donbas,” Denis Pushilin was quoted by the official Donetsk news agency as saying.
Pushilin stressed that the DPR is ready to hold a direct dialogue with Kiev and to reach agreements on resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine by peaceful means. “If it is necessary to come to Astana, we will accept such a proposal,” he added.
The Contact Group on Ukraine should work out compromises before the talks in Astana, Pushilin said.
The foreign ministers of the “Normandy Quartet” (Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine) gathered for talks in Berlin on Monday. The sides said they were ready to hold another meeting next week if talks at the level of political directors take place first.
Therefore, the Astana summit on resolving the months-long crisis in Ukraine has been postponed indefinitely.
Germany’s Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Martin Schaefer said on Monday that the Normandy Format summit was unlikely to be held as such an event needs to be “well prepared."
