Ukraine to repair two units of Zaporizhia NPP in February

KIEV, December 26. /TASS/. Two units at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (NPP), the biggest in Europe, will be put into repair for up to four months since February 2015, the NPP’s press service said on Friday.
“Under the plan, in February unit 2 will be up for capital repair for 110 days and unit 5 — for 107 days,” the spokesperson said.
In late November, the Zaporizhia NPP, in south-eastern Ukraine, cut off unit 3 from the integrate power grid. Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn said the accident was caused by a short circuit in its power outlet system.
The accident triggered introduction of emergency shutdowns throughout the country. On December 5, the Zaporizhia NPP finished the repairs at unit 3.
The Zaporizhia NPP is the fifth largest in the world with a capacity of 6,000 MW. It has six 1 million kW nuclear power units launched successively in 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1995. The share of the Zaporizhia NPP in Ukraine’s power sector has increased from 2% to 22% since 1984.
