KIEV, December 16. /TASS/. Former speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, Oleksandr Turchynov has been appointed Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council.

Turchynov, one of the closest allies of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, currently heads the People's Front faction in the new Ukrainian parliament elected in October.
