UN assistant secretary-general to assess human rights situation in Ukraine

UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights Ivan Simonovic is expected to make a trip to eastern Ukraine

GENEVA, December 11. /TASS/. UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights Ivan Simonovic will leave for Ukraine on Thursday to assess the human rights situation.

The visit will last till December 15, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said.

Simonovic will meet with several Ukrainian officials and representatives of the civil society. He is also expected to make a trip to eastern Ukraine.

On December 12, Simonovic will take part in presenting the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. On December 15, he will hold a news conference to present a report on the eight-months' work of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission to Ukraine.
