KIEV, December 9. /TASS/. Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said on Tuesday he is convinced that the country's parliament, the Verkovna Rada, will vote to cancel Ukraine's non-bloc status.

Ukraine's non-bloc status has been an acute issue lately.

Faction leader of Ukraine’s Popular Front party Oleksandr Turchynov suggested that the deputies consider a bill on cancellation of Ukraine’s non-bloc status on December 9. The document suggests excluding the word “non-bloc” from Ukraine’s law “On Fundamental Principles of Ukraine’s Internal and Foreign Policy” and replacing it with a provision that sets the goal of Ukraine’s NATO membership. The deputies are also planning to add an amendment banning Ukraine’s membership “in any international and supranational organizations” if it contradicts the goal of Ukraine’s integration with the European Union.

On Monday the country's President Petro Poroshenko said Ukraine’s non-bloc status was a matter which the parliament (Verkhovnaya Rada) should consider urgently.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, meanwhile, said late in November that Kiev’s abandonment of the current non-bloc status meant a course towards solving the conflict in south-eastern Ukraine by force and struggle against Russia.

If the events start unfolding according to this scenario, all the peace agreements reached since the time of the 1945 conference in Yalta (on the postwar world set-up) will be scored out, Franz Klintsevich, a member of the Russian State Duma Defense Committee, said on Monday.
