Ukraine to exert every effort to establish a visa-free regime with EU in 2015
Petro Poroshenko said a relevant decision should be passed at the Riga summit in May
KIEV, December 2 /TASS/. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has called for cancelling visas between Ukraine and the European Union.
“We need to speed up the conclusion of an agreement on a visa-free regime. We promised to establish a visa free regime in 2015 and we need to do that without fail, “Poroshenko told the parliament (the Verkhovna Rada) on Tuesday adding that a relevant decision should be passed at the Riga summit in May.
Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk in October tried to use possible visa-free regime with the EU as reason for building a wall on the border with Russia. He said Ukraine will not be able to agree on a visa-free travel regime with the European Union until it builds a proper border with Russia.
Some Ukrainian politicians earlier called to break diplomatic relations with Russia for the period of military hostilities in eastern Ukraine and establish a visa regime with Russia.
