KIEV, November 27. /TASS/. The federalisation of Ukraine is out of the question, the country's president said on Thursday.

Petro Poroshenko told Ukraine's lawmakers that 100% of Ukrainians are in favor of a unified state.

Ukraine’s federalization has been a key demand of residents of the country’s eastern regions. Meanwhile, the Kiev authorities have repeatedly rejected such a possibility.

President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy said on Wednesday that Ukraine should undergo federalization, stressing that this may be a comprehensive solution to the current crisis.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier in November Ukraine needs federalization in order to settle the ongoing crisis in the country.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov earlier said federalization of Ukraine could give a chance to each region of the country to protect its rights and traditions.

A survey conducted by Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation in October found that only 11.4% of respondents favor the country’s federalization. The poll involved 2,035 respondents in 110 settlements across Ukraine, except for the Luhansk region.

A poll carried out by the Ukrainian Pravda website between late January and March 1 showed that over half of respondents said Ukraine should be federalized. Just 19% of respondents said Ukraine should remain a unitary state. Over 8,000 people took part in the poll.

Since mid-April, Kiev has been conducting a military operation against federalization supporters and militias in Ukraine’s east. The operation involves armored vehicles, heavy artillery and attack aviation and has resulted in hundreds of deaths, destruction of buildings and forced tens of thousands to flee Ukraine.
