DONETSK, November 25. /TASS/. The parliament of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) called on Tuesday for convening the UN Security Council to consider plans of sending peacekeepers to the conflict zone.

“We are appealing to the international community to stop the humanitarian catastrophe and social genocide caused by the actions of the Ukrainian government,” the presidium of the DPR parliament, the People’s Council, said in a statement.

“We demand to convene an emergency session of the UN Security Council and consider the issue of intervention of a peacekeeping contingent involving representatives of the Russian Federation to control the compliance with the earlier reached agreements and resolving the humanitarian and social situation,” the statement reads.

A new UN human rights monitoring report released last week says “civilians have continued to be killed, unlawfully detained, tortured and to disappear in eastern Ukraine, and the number of internally displaced people has risen considerably despite the announcement of a ceasefire on 5 September.”

From mid-April to mid-November, at least 4,317 people were killed and 9,921 wounded in the conflict-affected area of eastern Ukraine. A total of 957 fatalities were recorded since the ceasefire began.

The number of internally displaced people (IDPs) has also sharply increased from 275,489 as of September 18 to 466,829 on November 19, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the report said.
