Ukraine’s parliament registers bill criminal responsibility for denying Stalin-era famine
Between 2 million to 3.5 million people were killed during the famine in Ukraine
KIEV, November 24. /TASS/. Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, registered on Monday a bill on introducing criminal responsibility for denying Ukraine's Stalin-era famine, known as the Holodomor.
The bill envisages amending the country’s criminal code to introduce punishment for those who publicly deny the Holodomor of 1932 -1933 in Ukraine as the fact of genocide of the Ukrainian people.
Between 2 million to 3.5 million people were killed during the famine in Ukraine. The country remembers the victims of Holodomor every fourth Saturday of November.
In 1932-1933, a mass famine in the USSR became a tragedy for the whole country and covered the territories not only of Ukraine, but also Belarus, North Caucasus, Volga Region, South Urals, West Siberia, Kazakhstan, killing up to 8 million people.
