Leaders of Ukraine’s five parliamentary parties sign Coalition Agreement
The Opposition Bloc is not a member of the coalition
KIEV, November 21. /TASS/. Leaders of five political parties, which are represented in the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, signed on Friday a Coalition Agreement, which outlines the direction towards the European integration, joining NATO, which lifts immunity for deputies and judges.
The document was signed by leaders of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc, Samopomich (Self Reliance), People’s Front, Radical Party, and Batkivshchyna. The Opposition Bloc, which unites representatives of the Party of Regions, which was at power earlier, is not a member of the coalition.
Ukraine’s Coalition Agreement sets task of lifting immunity from president, MPs, judges
Before the Coalition Agreement was signed by Ukraine’s five parliamentary parties on Friday, Julia Tymoshenko, who represented the Batkivshchyna party, said the Agreement reads it necessary to lift immunity from all politicians without exceptions, from judges, the president, and from the deputies.
“It was our party that insisted on including this provision into the Coalition Agreement,” she said.
“Most part of the Agreement is devoted to bringing back peace in Ukraine,” Tymoshenko said. “One of the steps to be taken first of all is to remove the non-aligned status, which the former regime had fixed legally,” she added.
Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said the Coalition Agreement contained complicated, painful, but necessary reforms.
“Responsibility for these reforms will be with the entire power - the president, parliament and government,” the prime minister said.
He asked the coalition members to nominate without their representatives to the government.
“We are not speaking about political quotas, we are speaking about our joint responsibility,” he said.
