EU tries to impose its values on Serbia — Chinese official
The European Union demands that Serbia impose sanctions against Russia
BEIJING, November 20. /TASS/. The European Union is trying to impose its values on Serbia, Vice-Minister of the International Department of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee Zhou Li said on Thursday.
The European Union demands that Serbia impose sanctions against Russia, Zhou Li said.
“As I know the accession to the European Union is the priority task for Serbia. By taking this opportunity the EU is trying to impose its values on Serbia and sets the imposition of sanctions on Russia as a condition for entering the Union,” he said.
China considers any sanctions counter-productive in international relations, Zhou Li said.
“In essence this problem is the choice that the Serbian government, the ruling party and the opposition face,” he said.
Earlier, European Commission for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn said Serbia should bring its foreign polical position in line with the European stance, including by imposing anti-Russian economic sanctions.
Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said his country was not going to impose sanctions against Russia.
