Naryshkin explained why it was necessary to update the PACE agenda

MOSCOW, November 19 /TASS/. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has a chance to become one of the main institutes of overcoming the pan-European trust crisis, Russian State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said in an article titled “ A Chance for Dialogue” published at the Rossiyskaya Gazeta daily’s website on Wednesday.

“Even though I know that experts are pessimistic, I am sure that PACE has a chance to use its considerable potential and act as one of the key institutes to overcome the pan-European trust crisis. In order to do that, however, it is necessary to understand and do a lot,” the speaker wrote in the article.

Naryshkin explained why it was necessary to update the PACE agenda. “It is necessary to remove all trifle and empty questions from the agenda and add issues that are really vital and urgent,” the Russian State Duma speaker said adding it was necessary to reform PACE’s internal procedures in order to guarantee real equality to all delegations and parliamentarians.

Any regulatory loopholes for bureaucratic ‘cleaning’ of unsuitable themes and proposals should be removed, Naryshkin said.
