MOSCOW, November 19. /TASS/. Ukraine’s off-bloc status is important for that country to ensure its national interests, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after a meeting with visiting Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto in the Russian capital on Wednesday.

“It goes without saying that off-bloc status is essentially important not in terms of effort taken to ensure stability in Europe, but to secure original national interests of Ukrainian state,” Lavrov said.

Proponents of revision of Ukraine’s off-bloc status do not make any secret that they need its abolition for struggle with the south-eastern regions of the country and then with Russia, he said.

According to Lavrov, Kiev officials, who press forward with the idea of renouncing nonalignment with blocs do not conceal their objective is to resolve the conflict in eastern Donetsk and Luhansk regions through the use of force and to fight with Russia as the main enemy.

Radical nationalists at the helm in Kiev plan to eradicate all Russian things in Ukrainian history, the Russian foreign minister said.

“In essence, radical nationalists in command in Kiev intend to eradicate all that is Russian in Ukraine’s history, all values that Russians have supported in Ukraine from olden times,” Lavrov said.
