Ukrainian opposition lawmaker says the decision violates the country's constitution

KIEV, November 18. /TASS/. The Ukrainian Opposition Bloc party demands from President Petro Poroshenko to revoke his decree scrapping welfare benefits for the country’s embattled Donbass (Donetsk and Luhansk regions), parliamentarian Yuri Pavlenko from the opposition party told Tass on Tuesday.

“Decisions made by the president and government of Ukraine to stop payments of welfare benefits come in rude violation of article 52 of the Ukrainian constitution that binds the state to finance the upkeep of orphans and children without parental care,” he said.

Pavlenko said there are 7,000 orphans in the zone of hostilities, living practically on the verge of starvation.

“The Opposition Bloc demands from the Ukrainian president, guarantor of the Ukrainian constitution, to urgently cancel anti-constitutional decisions,” Pavlenko said.
