Germany should help find well-balanced solutions as EU leader — Lavrov
No one, however, expects a breakthrough in Ukrainian settlement from German Foreign Minister's visit to Moscow, Sergey Lavrov says
MINSK, November 18. /TASS/. No one expects a breakthrough in Ukrainian settlement from a German foreign minister’s visit in Moscow, but it is important that Germany will help find well-balanced solutions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday.
“No one expects a breakthrough in Ukrainian settlement from German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s visit,” the minister noted, adding that Moscow, however, "values regular dialogue with Berlin.”
Lavrov added that talks with the German counterpart would raise not only Ukraine, but also prospects for development of Russian-German relations. Meanwhile, the Russian foreign minister said that this was important that being one of European Union leaders Germany “will help find solutions that will provide for the balance of positions of all parties concerned.”
On Tuesday morning, Steinmeier will visit Kiev and will pay a working visit to Moscow in the afternoon.
During the German foreign minister’s visit in Moscow he will continue talks on the situation in Ukraine and around the country, prospects of settlement with international assistance, the need to take additional measures for soonest end to bloodshed and to meet vitally important needs of residents in the southeast of that country, particularly over coming winter, Russian Foreign Ministry said earlier.
