Senior Ukrainian officials from nationalist Svoboda party step down
The move by the Svoboda party officials is politically motivated
KIEV, November 12. /TASS/. The members of Ukraine’s cabinet of ministers and heads of administrations from the nationalist Svoboda party have announced resignation after the results of parliamentary election were made public, a member of the party’s political council Oleksandr Sych said on Wednesday.
“All-Ukrainian Union Svoboda announces resignation of nationalist members of Ukraine’s cabinet, chairpersons of regional and district state administrations amid announcement of results of early parliamentary elections and establishment of the new coalition,” Sych said.
The move by the Svoboda party officials is politically motivated, Sych said stressing that after the parliamentary polls the participants of the future parliamentary coalition bear full responsibility for the political and economic situation in the country.
The politician said Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has been informed of the decision and the notification has been registered in the secretariat of the cabinet of ministers. Under Ukraine’s law, the officials will continue fulfilling their duties.
During the October 26 parliamentary elections, a total of 421 MPs were elected to the Verkhovna Rada, including 225 on party lists and 196 in majority constituencies.
The Svoboda party failed to get 5% on party lists but received 6 mandates in majority constituencies. The Petro Poroshenko Bloc won 132 parliamentary seats, Yatsenyuk’s People’s Front - 82, Samopomich (Self-Help) party - 33, Opposition Bloc -29, Radical Party of Oleh Lyashko - 22 and Yulia Tymoshenko's Batkivshchyna - 19.
The first session of the new parliament is expected to be held in late November or in early December.
