A decision of the EU Foreign Affairs Council is needed to start work on a new package of sanctions

BRUSSELS, November 11. /TASS/. The European Union is not yet ready with new proposals on additional sanctions against Russia over Ukraine, a source from the EU foreign policy service told Tass on Tuesday.

“As far as I know they don’t exist on paper,” the source said, adding that a decision of the EU Foreign Affairs Council is needed to start work on a new package of sanctions.

Earlier on Tuesday, European Commission spokesperson Maja Kocijancic said the European Union was mulling new sanctions against Russia.

She said the situation in Ukraine and reaction to that would be on top of the agenda of the EU foreign ministerial session due in Brussels on November 17.

Maja Kocijancic said the foreign ministers of 28 European Union countries would discuss the situation in eastern Ukraine basing on reports from different sources, first of all the mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to Ukraine, and would decide on EU’s moves within that context.

Maja Kocijancic said restrictive measures are among the instruments the European Union could apply.
