No plans to create SCO military organization — SecGen
MOSCOW, November 7. /TASS/. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) basic documents do not envision the formation of united military forces in the future, SCO Secretary-General Dmitry Mezentsev said on Friday.
“The basic documents, primarily the SCO Charter, do not change because of the political situation and operational estimate,” Mezentsev said.
The SCO basic documents have proved their importance over the 13 years of the organization's existence existence and “do not envision any armed units under the organization’s control,” he said.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was set up on June 15, 2001. It includes Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Mongolia, India, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan have the observer status. The member-countries conduct regular joint anti-terrorist exercises. The Peace Mission drills are the major maneuvres on the SCO space.
