Tony Abbot plans to meet Putin earliest possible to discuss details of the Malaysian Boeing crash in eastern Ukraine
MOSCOW, November 6. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin may have talks with Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott on the sidelines of an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China’s Beijing on November 10-11 and at the G20 summit in Australia's Brisbane on November 15-16, Russian president’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS.
“They will have an opportunity to have talks on the sidelines of one or another summit in any case,” he said.
The Australian prime minister said in an interview with The Australian newspaper on Thursday that he plans to meet the Russian president at first possible opportunity to discuss details of the Malaysian Boeing crash in eastern Ukraine.
Asked about possible topics for discussion between the two leaders, Peskov said replies will be given in case some questions arise.
Malaysian Boeing-777 jet en route from Dutch city of Amsterdam to Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur crashed not far from the troubled eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk on July 17, killing all 298 on board, including 27 Australians.
Kiev blames militias in eastern Ukraine for downing the Malaysia Airlines plane. The latter maintain they do not possess weapons capable of bringing down an aircraft flying at 32,000 feet.
Russia says that Ukraine is fully responsible for the MH17 crash and should have admitted that it failed to control part of its territory. The fact that Ukraine did not do this is a serious violation of international aviation law.
