RABAT, November 3. /TASS/. Burkina Faso’s military which has seized power in the state has announced plans to form a unity government to manage a political transition, an aide to the country’s interim leader said.
"A transition body will be formed by a broad consensus and the period of its operation will be exactly defined," a statement read out by colonel Auguste Barry said.
“We are not interested in power, the priority is only greater interest of the nation,” he stressed.
Earlier on Sunday, the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, was hit by a mass demonstration against the power takeoff by the army. Its participants rallied near the main television building.
In an effort to prevent the headquarters from being seized, the army fired several shots into the air and later cut off the TV channel.
On Friday, the 63-year-old president of Burkina Faso, Blaise Compaore, who seized power as a result of a coup in 1987, was forced to resign following mass protests against his attempts to extend 27-year rule.
The army chose Isaac Zida as the interim leader. This decision was condemned by the majority of the citizens.
