UNITED NATIONS, October 29. /TASS/. The elections in eastern Ukraine scheduled for November 2 will seriously undermine the implementation of the Minsk agreements on the peaceful settlement of the conflict, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, said on Wednesday.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed regret with militias’ plans to hold their own elections in contravention of the Constitution and national legislation, he said.
Dujarric called on the parties to comply with the Minsk agreements and work to settle the conflict by peaceful means.
The Secretary-General emphasises the fundamental importance of restoring stability and ensuring Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, he said.
On October 28, Ban Ki-moon lauded the elections to Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament).
He said the elections would be an important step towards stability, reforms, restoration and reunification of the country.
