KIEV, October 29. /TASS/. Arseniy Yatsenyuk said on Wednesday he should retain his post of the head of government as his People’s Front party won Sunday’s parliamentary elections.

“In line with the EU practice, the party that comes first needs to launch the process of forming the coalition,” Yatsenyuk told reporters during a press conference.

“I have announced these principles. If the coalition is formed on these principles, the leader of the first party will become a prime minister. If the coalition is established on other principles, there will be another basis and another prime minister,” he said.

If Yatsenyuk keeps his post, which he assumed in late February after the coup, he plans to form the new cabinet on an equal basis with all the parties that have been elected to the parliament, the Verkhovna Rada.

“We will have an open discussion on who will form the cabinet. If someone proposes stronger candidates, we will support them,” he said.

The decisions on forming the new government of Ukraine should be drawn up within 20 days, Yatsenyuk said.

Pro-European coalition in Ukraine's parliament

Yatsenyuk said his People’s Front party needs to form a ruling coalition in the Verkhovna Rada to be called ‘European Ukraine.’

He described the Petro Poroshenko Bloc as a strategic partner in a future coalition, but at the same time said he would like three other parties to join it, namely the Batkivshchyna (Fatherland), the Samopomich (Self-Help) and the Radical Party led by Oleh Lyashko.

The perspective members of the coalition should announce their proposals on who will head the government by Monday, he said.

The Petro Poroshenko Bloc also sees Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s People’s Front, western Ukraine’s Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy’s Samopomich (self-help), former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko’s Batkivshchyna and probably the Radical Party as its coalition partners. It was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman, who is in the top five of the election party list of the presidential bloc, on Wednesday.

Radical Party led by Lyashko could join Ukraine’s ruling coalition

Earlier on Wednesday, the Petro Poroshenko Bloc unveiled the text of a draft coalition which has been sent for consideration to the People’s Front and Samopomich parties.

It is unclear whether the Radical Party also received an offer. Oleh Lyashko’s Radical Party ran with the slogan of victory in the war in eastern Ukraine. The party calls for Ukraine to regain a nuclear status. The party set a task in its home policy “to render internal enemies harmless” and to conduct a sweeping lustration which implies broad purges among state officials. The Radical Party also proposes to annul the country's debts to Russia and urge all foreign creditors to write off 75% of all credits.

With 98.40% of ballots counted, Yatsenyuk’s People’s Front won 22.17% of the votes and is closely followed by the Petro Poroshenko Bloc with 21.82%. The Samopomich party led by Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy is scoring 11% of the votes.

The Radical Party is winning 7.44% and Yulia Tymoshenko’s Batkivshchyna - 5.68% The Opposition Bloc, headed by former Deputy Prime Minister Yury Boiko, secured 9.37% of the votes.
