Islamic State militants have anti-aircraft weapons — media

The defense systems are easy to use, and they pose danger to landing and taking off aircraft

BERLIN, October 26. /TASS/. Militants of the Islamic State organization have got hold of man-portable air defense which can be used to down passenger planes, German Bild am Sonntag newspaper wrote Sunday.

According to the newspaper, German intelligence representatives last week informed the Bundestag of Islamic State terroristss in northern Iraq being in possession of air defense systems, got from the Syrian army depots. 

The article says the defense systems in question are easy to use, and they pose danger to landing and taking off aircraft. Austrian Airlines and Qatar Airways are among the companies continuing to use the air space over northern Iraq.

According to the article, Kurdish fighters in Iraq have made first use of weapons supplied by Germany. Kurds used the Milan anti-tank missile in their offensive on positions of the Islamic State movement.

Berlin earlier made a decision to provide Kurdish fighters with weapons worth around €70 million.
