Man with submachine gun detained at polling station in eastern Ukraine

A knocked-down grenade was found in the basement of the polling station’s building

KHARKIV, October 26. /TASS/. A man with a submachine gun, who presented himself as an aide to a lawmaker with one of Ukraine’s political parties, was detained at a polling station in Kharkiv, a spokesman for the Kharkiv department of Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said on Sunday.

“At about 12:00 a man reported violations of election laws at a polling station in election constituency No. 70, the spokesman said. “Policemen who had been seconded to verify this information saw the man who had called the police was behaving suspiciously.” When they searched his backpack, they found a submachine gun and two magazines with cartridges.”

Moreover, a knocked-down grenade was found in the basement of the polling station’s building.

A criminal investigation was launched.
