CyberBerkut says it hacks into electronic counting system, Ukraine’s CEC website
“A next stage of political farce called ‘the 2014 parliamentary election’ is in full swing in Ukraine
KIEV, October 25. /TASS/. The CyberBerkut group of hacktivists said on Saturday it had disrupted the functioning of the electronic counting system and the website of the Ukrainian Central Election Commission (CEC) ahead of a snap parliamentary election due on Sunday.
“A next stage of political farce called ‘the 2014 parliamentary election’ is in full swing in Ukraine. The so-called ‘people’s servants’ have transformed the Ukrainian Central Election Commission into a weapon of illusory democracy, sharing the power only among themselves,” said a report posted on its website.
“We, CyberBerkut, announce that we control the cyberspace of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine. And today, on ‘a day of silence’ ahead of the election to the Verkhovna Rada, we have disrupted the functioning of the electronic counting system and the CEC’s website,” the report continued.
CyberBerkut has repeatedly targeted websites of the Ukrainian government and disabled telephones in the parliament.
