BERLIN, October 24. /TASS/. Ukraine's foreign minister has denied reports that military forces had used cluster bombs during fighting in the country's troubled east, dismissing photographic records as fakes.
“If you look attentively at the photographs, you will see they are fakes,” Pavlo Klimkin told Germany's Deutschlandfunk radio station on Friday.
The issue had been raised with the military and all accusations addressed, he said, responding to allegations from the international Human Rights Watch organization that ammunition had been used in October shelling of residential districts in central Donetsk.
Reported use of cluster bombs had caused major concern in the United Nations, UN Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights Ivan Simonovic told TASS on Thursday, adding that the UN Security Council would discuss Ukrainian human rights issues on Friday.
Russia “intends to urge its international partners again to take a non-politicized position in their assessments of the situation in Ukraine,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday.
