Russian Foreign Ministry official offered condolences on behalf of the Russian people to the families of the victims in the deadly shootings

MOSCOW, October 23. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokesman Alexander Lukashevich has offered condolences on behalf of the Russian people to the families of the victims in the deadly shootings in downtown Ottawa.

“Naturally, we feel with the Canadian people,” the Russian diplomat said.

“The events serve as a vivid reminding of the need to unite efforts of the international community in the fight against the terrorist threat,” Lukashevich stressed during a briefing on Thursday.

A series of deadly shootings hit the Canadian capital on Wednesday morning. The gunman, identified as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, first killed a soldier at the War Memorial before entering the country’s parliament.

The shooter, reportedly a Muslim convert, attempted to battle his way through the building, wounding at least two policemen on his way. The suspect was killed by police in return fire.
