Ukraine’s Radical Party accuses tycoon Kolomoyskyi of election-rigging plot

KIEV, October 23. /TASS/. The Radical Party of Ukraine, which may come second at the October 26 parliamentary election, demanded on Thursday that tycoon Ihor Kolomoyskyi should be suspended for attempts to rig the vote.

The leader of the party, Oleh Lyashko, has called on the Prosecutor-General’s Office to open a criminal case against the billionaire governor of the Dnipropetrovsk Region.

The plot was unveiled after a YouTube video showed a person sounding like Kolomoyskyi making an arrangement on involving the Interior Ministry battalions he controls in the region and ensuring the cover-up scheme in the Central Election Commission.

Ukrainian political scientist Kost Bondarenko believes that the scandal demolishes a myth that Ukraine is moving towards democracy. Ukrainian officials have not commented on the reports.

Kolomoyskyi is suspected of having financed military operations in southeastern Ukraine, where over 3,700 people have been killed since April, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
