Kiev hampers reconciliation denying civil rights to Ukrainians — diplomat
Russian diplomat said at a UN General Assembly meeting that Ukraine seems to be doing everything possible to prevent national reconciliation
THE UNITED NATIONS, October 23. /TASS/. Kiev authorities impede national reconciliation denying a large part of Ukrainian citizens to exercise their political, civil and cultural rights, first secretary of Russian Permanent Mission in the United Nations Aleksey Zaitsev said at a meeting of the 4th committee of the global organization’s General Assembly on Wednesday.
“Kiev authorities seem to do all they can to prevent national reconciliation denying a large part of their population to exercise their political, civil and cultural rights. The ban on the use of native language, expulsion of regional representatives from state authorities, use of paramilitary groups which are beyond the official structure of law enforcement agencies and do not abide by any law - all this has nothing in common with European principles which Kiev declaratively appeals to,” Aleksey Zaitsev said.
“The triumph of propagandistic cynicism became naming of all people living in east Ukraine and discontent with Kiev policy as terrorists.”
In reply to anti-Russian criticism levelled by his Ukrainian partner he urged not to use the UN rostrum “for unacceptable propagandistic demarches.” “Contrary to several other countries which fuelled up illegal change of power in Ukraine that followed chaos and several bloody events in that country from the very beginning Russia called for peaceful settlement of disagreements and general political dialogue. Russia promoted greatly attaining that fragile ceasefire which was reached after the Minsk peace deals,” the diplomat recalled.
The diplomat also noted that according to international rights organisation Human Rights Watch’s report made public this week “Already after the ceasefire was concluded Ukrainian military used cluster munitions in highly populated districts of Donetsk in early October.
