Violations at parliamentary elections in Ukraine can hit record — observers
Independent experts and official organizations are talking about many violations during the election campaign and serious deficiencies that can raise doubts about the results of the elections
KIEV, October 22. /TASS/. Early elections to the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, scheduled for October 26 can cause the biggest number of problems in terms of the compliance to legislation.
Independent experts and even representatives of official organizations are talking about many violations during the election campaign and serious deficiencies that can raise doubts about the results of the elections.
The elections in Ukraine's eastern regions, a large part of which is out of Kev's control, are one of the most serious problems. Head of the Central Election Commission Mikhail Okhendovsky said the elections could not be held in 14 electoral districts of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. Problems can emerge in another three electoral districts.
According to the Committee of Voters of Ukraine public organization, the situation is much more complicated in approximately 16-18 electoral districts. The elections may be impossible to hold in many districts of Donbass (usually refers to Ukraine's Donetsk and Luhansk regions).
The potentially dangerous situation is linked to the voting of participants in the military operation in the east of the country. Their number exceeds 50,000, Ukrainian media report. This issue was submitted to the parliament, but deputies failed to vote for these draft laws.
Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov wrote on Facebook that the number of violations linked to bribery of voters is rapidly growing.
A week before the elections Avakov said over 140 cases had been revealed. Criminal cases were launched to look into these violations, he said.
Law enforcers also reported on the attempts to commit terrorist acts in Kiev and Odessa.
International observers are to give their assessment on the pre-election campaign and the voting. This year the Central Election Commission has registered at least 2,321 people as foreign observers. The OSCE and the PACE will send the most number of observers. Neither Russian nor CIS observers will arrive to monitor the elections in Ukraine.
