LONDON, October 22. /TASS/. The West’s sanctions against Russia will last one or two years, but it is unlikely that tougher measures will be imposed, former Russian finance minister Alexey Kudrin said during the Moscow Exchange Forum in London.

"I think it will take one or two years to determine the status of southeastern territories of Ukraine. It will be a period when sanctions will remain in force,” he said.

However, he expects no stronger measures to be imposed.

The West announced new sectoral sanctions against Russia in late July over Moscow’s position on Ukrainian events, in particular, what the West claimed was Moscow’s alleged involvement in mass protests in Ukraine’s war-torn southeast.

In response, Russia imposed on August 6 a one-year ban on imports of beef, pork, poultry, fish, cheeses, fruit, vegetables and dairy products from Australia, Canada, the EU, the United States and Norway.
