Three candidates to run for head of Donetsk People’s Republic
Alexander Zakharchenko, Yuri Sivokonenko and Alexander Kofman have been officially registered as candidates for elections in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic
DONETSK, October 17 /TASS/. Alexander Zakharchenko, Yuri Sivokonenko and Alexander Kofman have been officially registered as candidates for elections in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic in which a new republican head will be elected, the chairman of the Central Electoral Commission of the Donetsk People’s Republic told a news conference on Friday.
He said that two candidates - Rozhnovaya and Rudnev - were denied registration while another candidate - Krasilnikov - decided to withdraw from the race.
The republic’s Central Electoral Commission announced Friday that two political movements - the Donetsk Republic and the Free Donbas - will participate in elections to the People’s Council of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic.
Prime Minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic Alexander Zakharchenko said on Friday the republic will hold its own elections on November 2, despite the president’s move to sign a law on special self-rule status for eastern Ukraine’s regions.
Boris Litvinov, who chairs the DPR’s parliament, the Supreme Council, also said on Friday that the self-proclaimed republic will go its own way despite the law on the special status.
