KIEV, October 16. /TASS/. The chiefs of Ukraine’s space agency and drug control service are among the first who have lost their posts under the law on lustration effective as of Thursday, October 16.

The law On the Cleansing of Authorities, also known as the law on lustration, is applicable to all civil servants and employees of local bodies of self-government that held their posts during the period from February 25, 2010 through February 22, 2014 during the Viktor Yanukovych presidency, as well as officials who held government and Communist Party posts during the Soviet era.

As Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said earlier, the lustration law would concern one million civil servants of different rank, including the whole Cabinet of Ministers.

Earlier on Thursday Yatsenyuk told the Cabinet of Ministers that under the implementation of the law on lustration the Ukrainian government made a decision to dismiss 39 top level officials. Twenty of them fall under the operation of the law and 19 others resigned.

According to a list published on the Ukrainian authorities’ website, the law on lustration resulted in the dismissal of the chiefs of the state space agency, the services for the control of drugs, for export control and also the chief state inspector for nuclear and radiation security.

The head of the agricultural watchdog and chief of the state statistics service resigned of their own accord.

At the president’s request the Cabinet of Ministers has suggested dismissing the head of the national securities and stock market commission and a number of members of that commission.
