Luhansk Economic Union nominates candidate for republic’s head in upcoming elections

Points of the candidate's election campaign include protecting the interests of working class, restoring production and improving political cooperation with Russia

LUHANSK, October 15. /TASS/. The Luhansk Economic Union public movement on Wednesday nominated the chairman of the federation of trade unions of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic, Oleg Akimov, for the republic’s head in the upcoming elections scheduled for November 2.

Akimov told TASS that his priority in the election campaign was to protect the interests of working class, to restore and develop production, and to improve close economic and political cooperation with Russia.

The Union’s chairwoman, Zinaida Naidyon, also gave a list of 52 candidates to the People’s Council (parliament) to the republic’s central election commission.

Earlier, the republic’s head, Igor Plotnitsky, nominated his candidature. He topped the list of 78 candidates from the Mir Luganshchine (Peace to Luhansk Region) public organization for the elections.

In line with the legislation of the LPR, a citizen of the republic at least 30 years old, who has permanently resided in the LPR for at least 10 years, can be elected as the LPR head.
